The first round of the Turkish elections was held on Sunday 13th of May. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the current President of Turkey got 49% of the total votes, while the opposition party got 45% with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. It is the first time Erdogan wasn’t elected in the first round. The second round will take place this coming Sunday. Oguz*, a 24-year-old Turkish man, has accepted to speak with us about the situation in his country.
Oguz highlights why Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is still on top in many people’s mind. He also discusses how the government has falsified votes by taking advantage of the recent earthquakes that has destroyed and traumatised an entire country.
